In the early morning hours we received some sad news, the worst kind of news. Our friend, journalist and combatant for peace Vittorio Arrigoni has been murdered in Gaza. We just spoke with some of his colleagues that continue in the Strip, people who are ready to carry on in their commitment to peace, freedom and justice. Some of them have prepared a video, where they say: “so that the ones who killed him will know that they were wrong.” They also requested that we sent out this message.

Some months ago we were working with different organizations to promote a campaign to monitor Human Rights in the Gaza Sea. We called it CPSGAZA, a Civil Service of Peace for the Gaza Sea. The goal is that international observers from different parts of the globe would travel in an easily identifiable boat accompanying the local fishermen, in order to warn them in case they were about to be attacked by the Israeli Navy. We have posted the mission and its aims on our website: www.cpsgaza.org.

Many individuals and organizations have worked with us to bring this project to life. Vittorio was one of them. Today we are opening up the process and inviting others to adhere to it. However difficult it may be, we believe that even at this moment, he would have wanted us to do this: to carry on.

The boat will be launched on April 20th, the first day of the International Conference of Bil’in on Palestinian Nonviolent Resistance, just as it was originally planned.

It is important that the boat counts with the maximum international support so that it is protected.
